Welcoming April to Setpoint Systems

AprilPlease join us in welcoming April to Setpoint Systems. In her 25-year career in the Denver area, she was a business co-owner of a product design and development company that started out manufacturing police equipment sold to law enforcement agencies all over the world. Eventually, the police equipment arm of the company was sold and the company transitioned to the awards and incentives market featuring custom imprinted products.

During this time April also co-owned a wholesale distribution company that sold automotive, commercial, safety, security and decorative window film. After that, she was an office manager at a company that manufactured paper tubes, such as the Quikrete concrete form tubes.

April was born and raised in Colorado. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, camping, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, caving, and gardening. She has a daughter at Johns Hopkins University and a daughter that is in her junior year in high school. Her oldest daughter plans to become an international lawyer and her youngest daughter plans to become a plastic surgeon.

April is excited to work for Setpoint Systems Corporation because of the high intellectual caliber of the employees and the transparent management style. She is also looking forward to learning the ins and outs of the integration of building control systems.

Setpoint Systems continues to grow their workforce

Drew and Scott - new employees squarePlease join us in welcoming Drew and Scott to Setpoint Systems. When new employees are hired, they are empowered to succeed.

During their five-week training course, Drew and Scott received extensive product and technical training, a company culture review, plus learned our processes, procedures, and standards. In addition to classroom training, they earned a “Masters” level on Delta Controls “George University.”

Drew and Scott completed their training on March 2. Please welcome them to our team.

Drew, Service Account Manager

Drew has played, coached and watched sports his entire life.  In his free time now he plays softball, golf, pick-up basketball, and a variety of backyard BBQ games.

In July of 2009, Drew packed all of his belongings into his Jeep and onto a trailer and moved to Denver from Holland, Michigan.  Holland is where he grew up, went to Hope College, and lived to prior to moving West.  Upon arriving in Colorado, Drew quickly found a position in a small Denver law firm where he moved into an account manager and firm manager role.

Drew’s passion and interests have always been with technology.  Through his interest and efforts in making his home a Smart Home and after 7 years in the legal field, he made the commitment to a career path change with Setpoint Systems.

Drew is impressed with the knowledge level of all his colleagues and anxious to continually learn and adapt with the changing marketplace.  He is excited to meet and help all of his customers realize the potential of their site and capabilities of their Building Automation Systems.

Drew is engaged to Felice, has a son Hayes and English Bulldog named Lucy.

Scott, Technician

Scott graduated high school in 2015. For three years he was a Domino’s shift manager, but he felt like he didn’t have room to grow and was ready to do something different. That is when he took advantage of a great opportunity — to join Setpoint and be trained in the building automation industry.

During June through October of 2017, he worked for us as an install helper. It was during this time, he discovered that he really enjoys integrating systems — making all the systems work together, problem solving, and troubleshooting. He admires and respects how Setpoint trains their customers to use the building automation system. He believes Setpoint really knows how to take care of their customers and build relationships.

Scott is currently attending Pikes Peak Community College to earn a HVAC degree. He wants to extend his knowledge beyond the HVAC degree, blending system integration with IT. He’s also really interested in cybersecurity and plans to learn more about it.

Scott played soccer from elementary through high school and hopes to join an indoor soccer team soon. He enjoys working on his car and playing video games. He is in the process of moving into his first place with his girlfriend. Life is good and he is ready to explore the opportunities that are available to him from Setpoint.

Setpoint Systems expands their sales force

When Setpoint Systems hires new employees, we empower them to succeed and provide extensive product and technical training. In addition to being immersed in classroom training, readings, and homework exercises, they earn a “Masters” level on Delta Controls “George University.”

We are growing our sales force and are excited to have Ben and Dan join Setpoint Systems as Service Account Managers. They have completed five weeks of training and passed their final exam on January 10, 2018. Please welcome them to our company.

Ben GroverBen, Service Account Manager

Ben has played sports all his life. After playing Division 1 baseball in the United States, he played overseas in both Europe and Australia.

Four years ago, he moved to Colorado and started working in the construction industry. After Ben sold construction equipment for three years, he became a project manager for a general contractor. He managed the building construction as well as the associated trades.

The last building Ben managed was a smart building, and he became intrigued with learning more about how systems could be integrated. This led him to research building controls and how to design energy-efficient buildings. His desire to get back into sales, where he could build customer relationships and help solve customers’ problems, led Ben to Setpoint Systems.

He is impressed with how extensive the training process is at Setpoint and can’t wait to pick the brains of so many talented colleagues. Ben is excited about implementing the many possibilities that building automation can do to help customers achieve their goals.

Ben is married to Hadlie. They both enjoy snowboarding, golfing, mountain biking, and taking their dog up to the mountains.

Dan Prairie-4x6Dan, Service Account Manager

Dan has a degree in electrical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He has held sales engineering positions

in several industries, most notably within the industrial controls and measurement arena, serving large manufacturing accounts across the Western United States and Canada. Before joining Setpoint Systems, he owned and operated a general contracting business, serving residential customers.

Dan will aim his passion and energy toward helping customers achieve corporate sustainability goals via integrated building systems. Ultimately, automated systems have the potential to improve productivity, while also reducing our impacts to the environment. Dan looks forward to sharing this vision with customers.

Dan has been married to his wife Tracy for 16 years, and they have a 12-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. His favorite hobbies are cycling and tennis. He also loves to go hiking and camping with his family in the mountains.


Dan, Setpoint Systems’ Service Coordinator

In case you haven’t talked to him yet, Dan is our new service coordinator and started October 2nd.


Dan is a PMI certified (CAPM) project manager. He spent 20 years in the automotive industry doing inside sales and customer service, plus technician and dispatching coordination. He was challenged with keeping 65 technicians busy.

After leaving the automotive industry, he did account management and provided technical assistance and high-level account resolution. Later he spent some time with an architecture firm and utilized REVIT to create high-quality architectural designs.

When Dan saw the requirements for Setpoint’s Service Coordinator advertisement, he thought it was a natural fit. Everything that the job required, Dan had extensive experience in. Drawing upon his past experience, he is working to streamline existing processes while he is mastering his position.

He believes we could benefit with less manual processes and automate more of the day-to-day functions. He plans to learn ComputerEase more in depth and develop ways to be more efficient. He thinks his position offers both challenge and growth.

Dan grew up in New Jersey and had visited our state multiple times. He was determined to move to Colorado  and leave the east coast behind. Dan has lived here for more than 22 years and enjoys all our state has to offer. He enjoys his lifestyle change because he loves to fly fish, play ice hockey, ride mountain bikes, and snowboard. In addition, he plays lead electric guitar for fun in a band called The Dead Drifters two or three times a month. He has been married to his wife Gail for 17 years, and he has a son and grandson who he enjoys spoiling.

Admin Volunteer Activity

Admin group volunteers for Xcel Energy Day of Service

The Xcel Energy Day of Service started seven years ago to honor the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. Together, Xcel and their volunteers have created a positive community effect by tackling nearly 70 projects for worthy nonprofit organizations, all across Colorado.

This year, Setpoint System’s Administration group selected this worthwhile cause for a team building activity. As part of their department’s six month goals, they volunteered Saturday, September 9 to make a difference in our community.

The Admin team signed up for project work at the non-profit Lakewood Action Center. “The Action Center provides basic human needs and pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless” through a number of service programs.

Lynda, Steve, and Danielle worked at the main location of the Action Center in the self-service grocery area. The self-service grocery program provides food to community members who are on the continuum of need, have experienced a temporary setback, or have never been able to make it on their own. The three sorted through and pulled expired produce, which will be shipped to local farmers for their pigs, cows, and other livestock. They cleaned and refilled bins with incoming produce from numerous grocery stores in the area that donate to the Action Center. This self-service grocery program provides healthy food alternatives to people in need.

Virginia and Roger worked at the Action Center Warehouse. At the warehouse, the volunteers worked in an assembly line to fill boxes with a 5-day supply of nonperishable goods. Virginia and Roger were part of the group who assembled boxes at the start of the line. The boxes were loaded on pallets and at the end of the day Roger helped push the pallets back into the warehouse for storage and use at the next community food giveaway. According to the Action Center staff, a record was set thanks to the thirty volunteers at the site. The old production record was eight pallets of sixty boxes each and the new record is now eleven pallets!

All in all, the team building activity brought a good feeling. It was great to work with a wonderful group of volunteers and ultimately support community initiatives.

The Countdown to the Solar Eclipse

#SetpointSystems is excited about next week’s total solar eclipse. Aaron is even going to Wyoming to enjoy it there. Total solar eclipses are rare and extremely beautiful. On August 21, 2017, the skies will darken for an unforgettable experience. The total solar eclipse will only occur in a path about 70 miles wide. It will pass through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Observers outside this path will see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk. Anyone viewing the partial eclipse needs to wear proper eye protection.

In the Denver area, we will experience the partial eclipse with 92% coverage. The partial eclipse will begin about 10:23 am, the middle of the eclipse when the maximum amount of the sun is covered will be about 11:47 am, and it will end about 1:14 pm. The duration of the eclipse will last about 2 hours and 51 minutes.

Setpoint Systems welcomes Stacy Coons to our inside parts sales team

Stacy CoonsStacy Coons, Inside Parts Sales, dedicated to helping you solve your system integration and parts needs.

With over 20 years experience in customer relations, Stacy brings his expertise and thirst for knowledge to our customers who are interested in finding the best solutions. Stacy comes from a well-rounded background where he was able to develop his level of personal interaction so that customers are valued, heard, and put first.

Prior to joining Setpoint, he ran a successful gunsmithing business. When he saw an opportunity with Setpoint where he could learn and share his customer service skills, he decided he wanted to return to corporate America.

From the time he could walk, he was on jobsites with his father’s construction company, doing everything from hammering a nail to building a structure from the ground up. This experience taught him hard work, tenacity, as well as the ins and outs of the trade.

Stacy has received extensive product training from Setpoint and earned a Masters-level certification on Delta Controls products and applications.

He went to Drexel University on a golf scholarship focusing his attention on computer information systems. He worked in the IT industry for over a decade, and he will blend this valuable knowledge and skills to build the Parts Department at Setpoint.

Stacy lives in the mountains of Colorado with his wife of almost 15 years and young daughter. He enjoys golfing, shooting sports, hunting, and spending time with family.

Welcome Setpoint’s New Employees


Setpoint Systems is growing and has hired several new employees.

This quarter we have held two new employee training classes. The first class consisted of two service account managers and one construction account manager. They focused on estimating and sales.

Our second class had a variety of different positions: two techs, one engineer/estimator, one inside part salesperson, and an engineering aide. After the main training was held, they worked with their individual groups to receive specialized training.

All of these employees completed five weeks of extensive technical training, product training, company culture review, plus learned our processes, procedures, and standards. In addition to classroom training, readings, and homework exercises, they earned a “Masters” level on Delta Controls “George University”.


Cody, Technician

Cody graduated from SCIT in Anaheim, California, and earned an associates degree in electrical engineering. After earning his degree, he moved back to Minnesota and worked as an electrician at various Minneapolis construction sites for a year.

Later he moved to Texas and worked various jobs while he figured out life. He is still working on the meaning of life and will share it as soon as he does.

Cody has been picky about his jobs and was excited when he saw Setpoint’s ads. He researched our company and thought it would be a good field to be in because of controls. He enjoys the atmosphere and culture of our company. It’s everything he hoped for, and he is looking forward to completing training. Cody will be working with Ryan in our Minnesota office.

He has been married to Sidney for two years, and they have a 15-month old son named Owen. Owen is his passion. Owen walks, talks, and runs… Cody watches a lot of Owen TV when he gets home.


James, Applications Engineer/Estimator

James earned his bachelors of science in mechanical engineering and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2016. After graduation, he worked full-time for the company he was interning with to be a quality/manufacturing engineer.

While James appreciated the job, he didn’t feel like he was able to move forward or to think critically. He was looking for a challenge and an opportunity to gain experience. His plans after college were to find a full-time engineering job, preferably in Colorado.

After he initially spoke with Sheri about the culture and what he would be doing at Setpoint, he was intrigued. During his interview with Sheri and Jon, they made him think critically about what he would be doing at Setpoint. He liked the way Setpoint challenges and empowers their people. He decided it was the place for him.

As part of the offer, Setpoint flew James to Colorado and had him stay in the company condo while he did his five weeks of new employee training. This made him appreciate how the company invests in their employees. After the training program is complete, he will be relocating to the Denver area.

James loves snowboarding, hiking, camping, and biking. He has a lot of friends in Colorado that he met while he was in the University of Kentucky ski club. Since there is no shortage of things to do in Colorado, he is looking forward to exploring.


Tammy, Technician

Tammy loves doing controls and is excited to be joining Setpoint Systems. She has been in HVAC for over 25 years. For the past ten years, she worked as an HVAC Service Tech until she was introduced to building controls. She loved it and said she discovered her passion.

Tammy started taking over the building controls and was subcontracted out to other HVAC contractors through her last employer. It was quite the experience, and she gained extensive knowledge about many different systems and their controls.

She has a lot of hands-on experience and believes in researching problems to achieve results. Tammy believes in strong customer service and often goes above and beyond to satisfy customer needs.

She has been married thirty years and has six adult children plus three grandsons. She enjoys spending time with her family going camping, fishing, hiking, and many other outdoor activities.

Her goals have been the same for quite some time—to have a dream job as a building automation programmer and to be able to share knowledge with her fellow workers. She is currently in college for her bachelors in information technology. She believes she will be a more valuable employee by combining her IT knowledge with her controls experience.

Tammy is really excited about the opportunity of working on Delta Controls systems at Setpoint.


Stacy, Inside Part Sales

Stacy comes from a varied background but has been interested in the building automation services for many years. For the past six years, he was running a successful gunsmithing business but was searching for more stability at a company he could feel proud to work for. Setpoint fits the bill.

From the time he could walk, he was on jobsites with his father’s construction company, doing everything from hammering a nail to building a 6,000-SF building from the ground up. This experience taught him hard work, tenacity, as well as the ins and outs of the trade.

From there, he went on to a golf scholarship at Drexel University and focused his attention on computer information systems. He worked in the IT industry for over a decade and plans to blend this valuable knowledge and skills to build the Parts Department at Setpoint.

Stacy lives in Conifer with his wife and young daughter. He enjoys golfing, shooting sports, hunting, and anything in the mountains.


Kyle, Engineering Aide

Kyle earned an associates degree in HVAC in upstate New York. He had been working in the Denver area for two years in the property maintenance field and was focusing on residential HVAC systems for multifamily housing.

Kyle is now looking forward to this new challenge and views it as an excellent opportunity to adjust his career path. He is interested in energy management, working with controls, and learning more about the Internet of Things (IoT).

He has been married for seven years to Natalie, and they have a furry kid named Jack. They enjoy hiking, camping, snowboarding, and exploring what Colorado has to offer.

He believes Setpoint is a place where he can make more of a difference. It is a more important field and has a bigger impact on energy savings. Controls will play a critical role in energy management with our growing population and the effects of increased energy demands and the depletion of natural resources.

Jeff, Colorado Service Account Manager

Jeff has been driving sales growth in the software and technology industry for the past 20 years. He believes that the key to his successful sales career has been to operate with integrity, love what he does, and never stop learning.

As a customer advocate, Jeff’s goal is to identify opportunities for his customers to implement new and emerging technology solutions so that they can increase their operational efficiency while improving productivity and lowering costs.

Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Metropolitan State University of Denver. He has lived in Colorado for 25 years and loves golfing, camping and hiking with his wife Stephanie and two children, Sarah and Ryan.

His goal over the next few months will be to visit his customers and assess their needs.

Joe , Colorado Construction Account Manager

Joe was interested in sales at the beginning of his career and has three years’ sales experience. When his first son was born in 2005, he was attracted to the steady income that being an electrician would provide. He had always dreamed of learning a trade and was presented with the opportunity to train to become an electrician with the IBEW. He gained on-the-job experience while studying at night and earned his license in 2009.

The main focus of the company he first worked for was tenant finish, but he always wanted to learn controls. He heard that Setpoint Systems was the company where he could gain that type of experience. So he joined us in 2014 as an electrician and then advanced to become a foreman in 2015.

However, in the spirit of Miller Heiman, periodic changes are a great way to keep one’s organization healthy.

Joe always enjoyed sales and believed that with his 12 years of electrical experience he would be an asset as a salesperson. So when he learned that Setpoint Systems was hiring salespeople, he applied internally for the position and made the switch. The idea that he could do something else inside of Setpoint Systems was a natural choice.

Even while working as a foreman, Joe realized that working with customers was the favorite part of his job. Now he is able to bring that same enthusiasm to the Construction Account Manager position. He believes this is an exciting opportunity, and it is a natural progression in his career. Joe is looking forward to using his field knowledge to be a creative consultant and assist in solving issues that customers are experiencing.

Joe grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and now lives in Arvada with his wife and two kids. He loves skiing and has already bought his family’s season pass for next year. He enjoys playing guitar and is into music of all types. He usually has several home improvement projects going at once, and he’s always trying to think of better ways to automate his backyard chickens’ environment.

Nick, Colorado Construction Account Manager

Nick has worked in multiple facets of the construction industry for four years, in addition to having six years of sales and marketing experience. For the past year he has worked as a Sales Project Manager for a small construction company. Prior to that, Nick worked as an Operations Manager for a property management company.

One of Nick’s loves is baseball. He earned a scholarship to the University of Indianapolis and played Division II baseball as their catcher. He learned to deal with many personalities and how to work towards a common goal. He is excited to join the Setpoint Systems’ family because of their comradery and team atmosphere.

He earned his degree in marketing and design. His sales strategy emphasizes customer retention, satisfaction, and building strong relationships. He enjoys interacting with people to determine what issues they are having and how he can help solve their problems. The most rewarding part of his career so far has been developing friendships with customers.

Nick enjoys all the opportunities Colorado has to offer: snowboarding, hiking, fishing, and camping. He is originally from Bettendorf, Iowa and moved to the Denver area about two years ago. His small-town values will help him connect with Setpoint customers.
